Fans hoping for more adventures with Woody and Buzz just got a major tease—the Toy Story 5 director isn’t ruling out a whole new wave of sequels.

Pixar is not-so-subtly hinting that Woody, Buzz, and Jessie might not be hanging it up after Toy Story 5. And yes, that comes straight from someone who would know.

So... are we getting Toy Story 6 (and maybe 7)?

Andrew Stanton, who has worked on all five Toy Story movies, marked the original film's 30th anniversary by tossing out a very telling crumb. While reflecting on the franchise in a Disney-produced piece, he thanked fans and used the plural 'stories' when talking about what is next. That may sound small, but for Pixar, it is basically a wink.

'I just have to say thank you to the fans for loving this world as much as we do. It is very clear how sincere everybody's fondness for these characters is, how deep their connections to them are, and we feel the same way. We can't wait to keep these stories coming for you.'

To be clear: Disney and Pixar have not announced anything beyond Toy Story 5. But Pixar's chief creative officer Pete Docter recently laid out a plan to alternate releases — one original film, then one sequel — in the years ahead. Given that cadence, the franchise's popularity, and the fact that Toy Story 5 is positioned as a big summer play, it would not be shocking if the conveyor belt keeps moving.

What Toy Story 5 is actually doing

  • Release: June 19, 2026 in U.S. theaters
  • Studios: Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures
  • Returning voices: Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie
  • Premise: Pixar is pitching it as 'Toy meets Tech' — the gang faces a new, tech-driven threat that makes playtime a lot more complicated

That 'Toy meets Tech' angle is a fun twist for a series that has always found new existential crises for its heroes. If Toy Story 5 connects the way these movies usually do, Stanton's plural might turn into a pipeline.
