When it comes to antagonists, the worse the personality, the better the character.
In its six seasons on the air, The Rookie has seen its characters go up against many criminals. Some of these crooks have become recurring antagonists on the show, but few can compare to the following five villains who make the ABC police procedural what it is.
Oscar Hutchinson
One of The Rookie's recurring characters, Oscar has appeared in all six seasons of the show, causing trouble for the fan-favorite cops. Oscar is not a mastermind villain, and his crimes are usually petty and uninteresting, even when violent. But the main appeal of this character is that he doesn't make you feel anxious, and you can just enjoy the stories without the stakes being too high.
La Fiera
Sandra de La Cruz was one of the biggest antagonists of Seasons 3 and 4. While she initially seemed like a nice lady who had a good relationship with Angela Lopez, Sandra quickly proved to be worthy of her nickname – La Fiera – which means the Beast. Bloodthirsty and irascible, she committed many crimes to avenge the murder of her son, spicing up the show and keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Elijah Stone
When Wesley Evers asked for help finding Angela Lopez, who had been kidnapped by La Fiera, the rival cartel leader proved to be a major thorn in his side. In exchange for helping Wesley find Angela, Elijah forced the attorney to serve as his dirty lawyer. In addition to raising the stakes, Elijah made Wesley forget some of his principles, leading to some interesting character development and trouble for the beloved lawyer and his girlfriend.
Rosalind Dyer
The deranged serial killer is the mastermind behind many of the crimes in Seasons 2, 3 and 5. Rosalind, who was already incarcerated when she was introduced to the show, has managed to manipulate the D.A.'s office into letting her out several times and has committed several murders from behind bars through her "apprentice" Caleb Wright. Rosalind's storyline is always interesting to follow, but she's the kind of person that makes you glad she's just a fictional character.
Monica Stevens
A brilliant blend of the aforementioned villains, Monica Stevens is smarter than Sandra, more criminally savvy than Elijah, and more evil than Rosalind. She is fearsome and fearless, good with guns and adept at the law, which helps her get away with her many crimes. Monica also has the surprise factor, as the corrupt lawyer doesn't seem very dangerous when you first see her, but proves to be the biggest antagonist on The Rookie as you get to know her.
