Tom Holland Reveals the Gross Truth Behind His Spider-Man Suit Changes

This time, Holland promises a return to street-level Spidey and is more hands-on than ever with the rebooted adventure.
File this under delightfully gross: Tom Holland says his Spider-Man suit gets so musty he swaps it out every two weeks. Also, yes, he is back for another round as Peter Parker, and he sounds more involved than ever with what that movie is going to be.
The musty-suit situation
In a recent Esquire chat tied to his Prada partnership, the 29-year-old English actor admitted the Spidey suit does, in fact, get funky after a while. Esquire joked about needing a fragrance to mask it; Holland basically confirmed the smell is real and the fix is constant wardrobe refreshes.
I probably get a new suit every two weeks, I reckon.
He has been playing the webslinger for nearly a decade now, so if anyone knows the aroma profile of superhero spandex, it is him.
Brand New Day: what he is trying to make and for whom
Holland is returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which Marvel/Sony are positioning as a soft reset that brings Peter back to his street-level roots. His main goal this time? Keep it honest to the character and worth your time.
I want to bring the fans something that is really worthy of their time.
He even clarified he is not talking about your wallet, he is talking about your hours. As he put it, asking people to go to the theater two or three times is a big ask, so he wants the movie to earn that.
The very inside-baseball part
Holland says he has been quietly lurking fan discussions online to see what people actually want from the next Spider-Man. Then he takes those ideas to Marvel and makes the case to build the movie around what resonates. According to him, that is exactly the path they are on, and the development has been surprisingly fun.
This is also the first time he has been let into the creative kitchen on a Spider-Man film. He called the process stressful, but says the work is paying off now that cameras are rolling.
Now that we are shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.
The when and the what to expect
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently filming and swings into theaters on July 31, 2026. The pitch is back-to-basics Peter: smaller-scale stakes, street-level problems, and a lead who is clearly trying to make sure your trip to the movies is worth it — even if the suit smells like a gym bag by week two.
