Tom Hanks' Niece Goes Viral After Throwing a Tantrum on Claim to Fame (Video)
Carly Reeves was frustrated with the reality show and her fellow contestants for sending her home.
The Season 2 premiere of Claim to Fame ended with one of the contestants spiralling into a full-fledged meltdown. It was Carly Reeves, who turned out to be Tom Hanks' niece. The ABC reality show, hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas, premiered last July and quickly became a hit with viewers.
The competition's premise is that 12 people related to various celebrities try to guess who their rivals' famous relatives are. If the guess is correct, the participant whose famous relative has been revealed gets eliminated.
That was exactly what happened to Carly Reeves in the 26 June episode, aptly titled Megastars and Meltdowns, which opened Season 2. Her opponent Hug used the clues given in the episode to correctly conclude that Carly had to be related to Tom Hanks and he was right on the money, resulting in Reeves becoming the first contestant to be eliminated from the show. But she didn't go quietly.
When Hugo gave the correct answer, Reeves broke down in tears and left the set to pack her things. As the cameras followed her into her dressing room, she let out an ear-splitting scream, startling the other participants who were still sitting in the elimination area. Carly then started yelling about how Claim to Fame was unfair, insulting a fellow contestant in the process. Footage of her tantrum was shared on social media and quickly went viral.
‘His freakin’ clues are so freakin’ obvious,’ Reeves is seen yelling in the video. ‘There’s literally no reference to benches on any other movie. Even Gabriel [fellow contestant] found that out. He’s not even, like, smart. I didn’t even get to do any challenges!’
The 'benches' Carly is yelling about refer to the clue given in the show about her famous uncle as a nod to Forrest Gump, one of Tom Hanks' most popular movies.
‘I don’t deserve this,’ Reeves goes on to complain. ‘I should have more camera time. I should be aired longer!’
When later interviewed about the outburst, Carly told USA Today she was in shock at the time and couldn't remember most of what she said in the video, but added she regretted nothing.
‘I was first shocked, then I was sad, and then I was really angry because I thought that my clues were just super easy,’ she said. ‘I'm an emotional person, so I'm obviously going to react in a big way because that's just how I am. [...] That was all real. So, I can't regret it.’
Claim to Fame Season 2 Episode 2 airs on ABC on 3 July.
