Bridgerton fans are looking forward to the next season, where they hope to see another two characters find their true love.

This time it will be the third Bridgerton sibling, Colin, and Penelope Featherington. Two established characters on Bridgerton that fans just adore. They have been a part of the show since day one, and many viewers are anticipating the development of their relationship. And what they seem to be waiting for the most is the good old friends-to-lovers trope.

Unlike the first two seasons, this one will focus on the two people who have known each other since childhood and are already friends.

We know that Penelope has had a crush on Colin for years, and that Colin has been writing to Penelope while traveling abroad. But now their relationship is about to change.

According to the official synopsis, after hearing Colin humiliate her in front of his friends, Penelope will decide to move on from her crush and find herself a suitable husband.

But this won't sit well with Colin, who will feel abandoned and try to win back Penelope's friendship by helping her gain popularity among the bachelors of the ton. Of course, this could lead to nothing but a steamy romance. Although fans worry that this plot and some of the subplots (like the Lady Whistledown storyline, for example) involve too much drama and angst, which could ruin the rom-com vibes.

"As much as I want the drama, the pining, the angst, the sex (cause this is a Bridgerton drama what do we expect), I also want to see them goofing off each other, making fun of their little inside jokes, and just generally having that best friends energy even if we know they have hot sex," a fan wrote on Reddit to the agreement of others.

Fans are sure that the friends-to-lovers trope implies the easy and natural development of the relationship, and having the two beloved characters find best friends and lovers in each other could ease the drama of previous seasons, where the main characters had to overcome many obstacles to finally be together.

Of course, it is impossible to build an entire season around the "best friends" vibe, but fans are hoping that enough screen time will be devoted to this aspect of Penelope and Colin's relationship.
