Timothée Chalamet Has Robin Williams Energy, Says Marty Supreme Star

Fran Drescher just compared Timothee Chalamet to Robin Williams. Not a combo I expected to hear in the same sentence, but it actually makes sense once she explains it.

On Good Morning America on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Marty Supreme star talked about working with Chalamet on Josh Safdie's new movie and flashed back to her time with Robin Williams on Cadillac Man. What she noticed in both of them: that rare on-set energy where the lead is not just acting, but actively taking care of everyone else and setting the tone.

"There are some people that you work with that kind of like to be like the host of the project even though they are the stars. Robin Williams, may he rest in peace, was the first one I worked with that was like that. Dan Aykroyd was like that. I always thought, you know, when I'm a big star, I want to be like that. And Timmy is like that, too. So, you know, it's really... kudos to him."

She kept the praise coming, calling Chalamet a genuinely fine actor and saying she has loved his work since those early, teenage roles.

So what is Marty Supreme?

It's Josh Safdie's first feature as a solo director, and Drescher plays Chalamet's mom. The story follows up-and-coming table tennis talent Marty Mauser grinding his way toward greatness through a lot of highs and lows. If the premise sounds scrappy and a little eccentric, the casting doubles down on that in a fun way.

Yes, that is a wild mix. Also, Drescher seeing the same generous set-leader quality in Chalamet that she saw in Robin Williams (and Dan Aykroyd) is both a sweet nod and a pretty high bar to clear. We will see it for ourselves soon enough: Marty Supreme opens in theaters on December 25, 2025.
