Thought One Piece's Shanks Looks Like Gosling? You're Not Alone
So here's what happened to Gosling's character in Drive. He was isekai'd to One Piece!
Netflix's adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's famous pirate manga immediately captured the hearts of both longtime fans of the franchise (which is still going after nearly 25 years) and new viewers unfamiliar with the source material. Pirate intrigue, adventure, great costumes, CGI and acting — everything about the live-action remake was simply great, which is especially commendable because Netflix's earlier adaptations were much less successful.
Among the colorful cast of characters, viewers were particularly drawn to the red-haired pirate named Shanks, a man of great charisma who's also a father figure to Iñaki Godoy's protagonist Luffy. But besides Peter Gadiot's brilliant performance as Shanks, fans on the Internet are going crazy about the actor's resemblance to Ryan Gosling.

Who's Shanks?
Shanks is the captain of his own crew, the Red-Haired Pirates, and a longtime frenemy of Buggy the Clown, with whom they were both Gold Roger's pirate apprentices. He is also a mentor figure and pirate idol to Luffy. The red-haired pirate once gave Godoy's character his famous straw hat, stole a devil fruit that Luffy accidentally ate, and also saved the boy by sacrificing his own left arm.

What's all the fuss about?
'The whole time I was watching Shanks, I [couldn't] get the image of Ryan Gosling outta my head, they really do look similar…' one of the fans commented on X.
As soon as One Piece arrived on Netflix, fans on the Internet started comparing Shanks' actor Peter Gadiot to Ryan Gosling. And it's not hard to see how the two stars look alike: both have similar facial features, including close-set eyes and eyebrows shape, as well as their smile, which is almost identical.
Some people even suggested that the One Piece crew deliberately cast Peter Gadiot for his similarity to Gosling, thinking that their show would benefit from the 'involvement' of an A-list actor, even though they're not actually hired to star in the project.
Notably, the live-action Shanks has also been compared to Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Smith, and even YouTuber Markiplier. So perhaps, in addition to his great leadership and sword fighting skills, Shanks is also good at shapeshifting?
Who's Peter Gadiot anyway?
Shanks' actor Peter Gadiot also appeared in shows like Queen of the South and Yellowjackets, but if you watch him in his other roles, he actually looks nothing like Gosling. In One Piece, however, it's probably Shanks' hair style and color that make Gadior look like the famous actor. And then again, their smiles are surprisingly similar.
