It has to do with the characters' naming agreement.

It's been four years since CBS' The Big Bang Theory wrapped up after 12 seasons on the air. Remarkably, the show's popularity hasn't faded away over this time — partially because its prequel series, Young Sheldon, is keeping the story fresh and providing fans with more details about the original characters.

In the Young Sheldon Season 4 episode 'Graduation,' adult Sheldon reveals that he has a son named Leonard. You'd think that the boy was named after Shelly's best friend and flatmate Leonard from TBBT, but in reality, he wanted to name his son after Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portrayed Spock in the Star Trek series, but his wife Amy objected to the idea.

As it turns out, the fact that Sheldon and Amy named their son Leonard is a minor deviation from the original series' canon, violating an agreement that Shelly and Raj made on TBBT.

The Season 9 episode 'The Sales Call Sublimation' sees Sheldon and Raj working with a powerful telescope to find new celestial bodies. Their observations and calculations lead to a discovery — they find an asteroid and, as scientists normally do, want to give it a proper name. Eventually, the friends agree to name the asteroid Amy, after Sheldon's future wife.

However, there's a catch: Raj agreed to name their discovery after Sheldon's girlfriend so Shelly, in his turn, would name his children Rajesh (regardless of their gender). But as we know from Young Sheldon, the protagonist's son was named after Leonard instead — and apparently Raj had no issues with the naming.

'Raj can be a dick sometimes, but I doubt he would make them really name all their kids Rajesh,' a Reddit user pointed out.

Perhaps the writers just overlooked the agreement that Raj and Sheldon made in Season 9, but it's more likely that Amy insisted that her son be given a Western name (just not Leonard Nimoy!) because he doesn't actually have Indian ancestry.

In any case, this little inconsistency is both amusing and sweet — it looks like Raj was kind enough to allow Sheldon and Amy name their son whatever they wanted, and the spouses preferred to name the boy after their other best friend.
