This Young Sheldon Character Wasn't Given Due Closure, Fans Believe

Over the course of the six seasons it's been on the air, Young Sheldon has told a fascinating story about the childhood of The Big Bang Theory's most memorable character. Narrated by Sheldon's adult self, the spin-off follows the Cooper family in their day-to-day lives as they deal with their personal, professional and familial problems. But even though the show focuses on the family, there are many other notable supporting characters.

For example, Dr. Sturgis, Shelly's friend and mentor and Meemaw's boyfriend, is one of Young Sheldon's ultimate fan favorites. Since Season 5, Mandy has also become one of the most popular characters on the show. But before her, Georgie had another romantic interest whose sudden disappearance continues to puzzle viewers. In addition, the audience feels that the character in question has not been given enough closure and has been written off.

Veronica Duncan

One of the show's most interesting side characters, Veronica made her debut in the second season, where she was portrayed as the cause of Georgie's sexual awakening. She had a bad reputation at school for being promiscuous and reckless. And while Georgie was initially driven to her by lust, Veronica eventually helped him become a better person, more considerate and caring, as she reformed herself.

For example, the scene in which Georgie gives Veronica a candy necklace is still considered one of the show's most heartwarming moments, showing the softer, more attractive side of Shelly's older brother.

With that in mind, it's no wonder the audience didn't appreciate Veronica's abrupt disappearance from the show. But what's even more upsetting is that she was never mentioned again on the show.

Young Sheldon's Fans Disapprove of Veronica's Disappearance

Needless to say, the show's fans still miss the character they hoped would be Georgie's sweet first love.

'I always loved her and I always hoped she and Georgie would be endgame. Unfortunately the very talented Isabel May left the show to star in the teen Netflix show: Alexa and Katie,' one Redditor wrote. 'Honestly the show tried so hard to top the ship but it didn't work, it's why I won't watch the spin off coz idc about Mandy sorry.'

Interestingly, many viewers feel that Veronica's sudden disappearance wasn't planned at all, as she was supposed to end up pregnant with Georgie's child and marry him.

'I have a sneaking suspicion that Georgie was originally intended to impregnate Veronica Duncan and make her his first wife before her actress dropped out, leading the showrunners to create Mandy instead,' another Reddit user assumed.

Either way, Veronica is nowhere to be seen on Young Sheldon, and that is a shame. Hopefully, the show will address the character's departure one way or another in the upcoming seventh season.

Season 7 of Young Sheldon is scheduled to premiere on February 15.
