This Eerie Young Sheldon Season 7 Theory Will Haunt You For Days
Is it even possible for a family show to tackle this subject?
Summary
- Young Sheldon features many characters that TBBT fans may not be familiar with.
- Sheldon's female counterpart, Paige, is one of the show's most memorable characters.
- She may face a very tragic fate in season 7.
Ever since Young Sheldon premiered in 2017, fans of The Big Bang Theory have only been pondering one question. Why does TBBT's Sheldon never mention the plethora of people who were part of his childhood? After all, YS features a number of notable characters that are never mentioned in the original sitcom.
Obviously, this is a simple writing problem, as the TBBT creators must not have thought of making a prequel that would have to be consistent with the main show's narrative. But this major plot inconsistency leaves a lot of room for speculation and fan theories, some of which are more gruesome than others. The most heartbreaking, for example, involves Sheldon's childhood nemesis/friend Paige.
Sheldon's Opposite
Over the course of Young Sheldon's six-season run on CBS, the spin-off has explored many of the events that happened to Sheldon in his childhood and brilliantly portrayed the hardships of growing up different. Interestingly, Sheldon never seems to feel lonely, but he's still given a counterpart, an equal – Paige Swanson.
Just as smart as Sheldon (if not smarter), Mckenna Grace's character has an impressive emotional intelligence. And while it makes the audience like and sympathize with her, it also causes her a lot of mental problems, as Paige succumbs to adolescent angst just like any other teenager. In her case, however, the struggle seems self-inflicted, given Paige's genius. In other words, Paige seems to choose to be miserable and act wildly, enjoying her rebellious phase.
Paige's Ambiguous Fate
Since Paige was the one who constantly challenged Sheldon and let him know that he wasn't the only smart kid in the world, it would seem that he would want to remember her. Oddly enough, Dr. Cooper never mentions Paige on TBBT, which is why many fans think there's a dark reason behind it.
Season 6 of Young Sheldon saw Paige doing a lot of self-destructive things, from drinking alcohol to dating not-so-benevolent strangers. This just goes to show that the character's mental struggle has worsened. It also leads the audience to believe that Paige may end up committing suicide in season 7.
As horrible as it sounds, this tragedy would perfectly explain why Sheldon would choose to erase all memories of his friend/nemesis and never revisit them in his adult life. Despite his genius, Sheldon is not emotionally mature, so Paige's suicide would be very difficult for him to process. Also, Paige's tragic end would explain why there's no news about her in the scientific world – the character, sadly, no longer exists in the TBBT world.
Hopefully there's a more benign explanation for Paige's complete absence from TBBT. But this theory is still a lot to think about.
Young Sheldon Season 7 is scheduled to premiere on February 15.
