These Nine Stars to Return in Young Sheldon Season 7; One May Not
These ensemble cast members are sure to appear in Shelly's most important season yet.
Young Sheldon, the prequel spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, has been around for six years now. And in all that time, the show has never ceased to surprise us with a thoughtful look at Sheldon Cooper's history before he got accepted to Caltech. In the end, the truth turned out to be quite different from the narcissistic anecdotes of an adult Shelly denigrating his family members.
Everyone in the Cooper family is not just a flighty, reckless person, as the adult version of Sheldon said of them. They are living, breathing people who empathize and criticize, support their loved ones as best they can and face personal obstacles. Over the course of six seasons, YS is no longer just the story of the title character's formative years; it's the story of his family, told through a great ensemble cast. But which characters will return in Season 7?
Although there are no details about the upcoming season due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the network renewed the show for seven seasons back in 2021, so it's only a matter of time. You may have noticed we didn't mention one of the central figures in shaping Sheldon's views, someone who by Sheldon's own recollection traumatized him forever before his sudden death. Yes, we're talking about Sheldon's father, George Cooper Sr, played by Lance Barber. While he will appear at least early in the season, it's safe to assume that the tragic death of the Cooper family patriarch will be a pivotal moment in the series, leaving us to wonder when the character will be written out of the storyline.
The WGA strike ended a month ago, so the writers of Young Sheldon have probably already begun work on next season. All that remains is for the actors of the SAG-AFTRA union to win their vital demands from the AMPTP, and then full work on the show will resume. Thus, Young Sheldon Season 7 should not be expected until 2024 at the earliest (although the release window could be pushed back to the fall of 2024).
