There's Only One Spin-Off Young Sheldon Needs, and It's Not Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage

If there were a Guinness World Record for the most quickly disappointing TV show spin-off, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage would certainly break it. When news of a new show focusing on their marriage broke in the middle of this winter, before the premiere of Young Sheldon's seventh season, fans were thrilled. But when Season 7 itself turned out to be more about them and setting up the new spin-off than following the titular character at the most important time of his life, the excitement faded.

Now, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, a classic multicam sitcom with a laugh track, is set to premiere on CBS sometime this fall. And sure, Young Sheldon fans will be getting excited about the new show throughout the summer. But clearly, it won't be as popular as this spin-off would have been.

Young Mary or How I Met George

As many fans had suspected over the years, and as was revealed in the show's finale, Young Sheldon is nothing more than Dr. Cooper's autobiography, in which he revisits his own childhood and comes to understand how wrong he was about his family, and especially about his late father, George.

Perhaps the same could be done with Sheldon's mother, Mary, who was deeply hurt by her husband's untimely death and grew to hate him over the years. Perhaps Mary needs to reminisce about how she met George and how their romance began?

Dr. Cooper could share his memoirs with his mother and inspire her to take a look at her own life and especially her relationship with George. This would give us a look at the rebellious teenage Mary, the younger Meemaw, and their dysfunctional family. Then we'd see how Mary met and fell in love with George, their secret affair that led to her out-of-wedlock pregnancy and marriage.

The spin-off could also explore the early years of George and Mary's marriage, with little Georgie as their only child. And over the course of the series, Mary would reconsider her feelings for George and work through her grief to see that he was always there for her, even when they didn't seem to be happy and prosperous.

A Treat for Fans

More importantly, such a spin-off would bring back the beloved actors from both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon and introduce new faces as they portray the characters at different stages of their lives. Unfortunately, that's just wishful thinking, and all we have for now is Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. But who knows, maybe it won't be as bad as it seems?
