Apparently, neither show did well at first.

Summary

  • Frasier was one of the most popular '90s sitcoms.
  • The audience doesn't like the show's reboot yet.
  • The original run had its problems as well.
  • The Frasier revival is only developing its narrative at this point.

As we are well into the twenty-first century, the 1990s seem to be pretty faraway and foreign at this point. But there are things from that era that even the youngest generation knows – TV shows. Interestingly enough, the last decade of the second millennium was particularly famous for its sitcoms, many of which remain popular with international audiences to this day.

NBC's hit comedy Frasier was undoubtedly one of the most popular shows of the decade. In total, the sitcom spanned a whopping eleven seasons – a run unmatched even by the network's flagship comedy, Friends. Thirty years since its premiere, Frasier is being revamped by Paramount+, with new episodes of the reboot dropping weekly.

So far, only four episodes of the new Frasier have been released, but unfortunately, fans are none too impressed by it, stating the obvious – the original show was better. However, you'd be surprised to learn that the initial run of Frasier and its reboot have a lot in common.

Late Bloomers

It is a rare occasion when a TV show is universally beloved right off the bat. When it comes to sitcoms, things are even more difficult, as people tend to laugh at different things.

Consider CBS's flagship sitcom The Big Bang Theory, which was widely panned when it first aired, but grew to become one of the most popular comedies of all time. Frasier had the same history, with many fans complaining about the show's lack of supporting characters and their poor development.

Now, its revival is facing the same critique.

Give the New Frasier a Chance

As we've mentioned, the reboot has shown only four episodes, meaning there's a lot more story to unfold. Certainly, Paramount+'s Frasier has its shortcomings, but it appears all premiere installments do.

This leads us to believe that, like its predecessor, Frasier's revival will need a little more time to establish a narrative that fans will enjoy. Perhaps that might happen in the fifth episode, scheduled for release on November 2.
