Then & Now: See Kim Cattrall in Her First-Ever Acting Gig in 1977
Too bad no one can remember the series these days.
Just recently, Kim Cattrall, 66, shared a photo of herself from her first acting job with MCA Universal. The actress whom you most probably know as Samantha Jones, a very libidinous PR manager from HBO's hit franchise Sex and the City, posted the picture on Twitter — and fans were really excited to see their favorite star in a role that had been largely forgotten over the years.
Cattrall got the role of Samantha Jones in the late 1990s when HBO launched the first season of Sex and the City. She took part in all six seasons of the iconic show from 1998 to 2004 and later in two movies of the same name in 2008 and 2010.
However, the actress turned down the third film installment in 2017 and did not star in the sequel show, And Just Like That…, which is set to release its second season this June. HBO simply wrote her character off as no one dared to replace Kim, so inextricably the actress and Samantha were linked. It's no wonder this is still the one role that Kim Cattrall is most associated with.
However, the actress actually has an extensive acting portfolio. Cattrall played in a number of popular movies, including Police Academy and Ice Princess, received several Emmys, appeared on The Simpsons, and starred in Hulu's recent show How I Met You Father. Fans of the actress surely know about these acting credentials, but not many remembered her first serious acting job — the role of cousin Maude in the 1977 mini-series Testimony of Two Men.
Testimony of Two Men was a three-episode post-Civil War costume drama that revolved around two former field doctors and their professional and personal lives, spanning 36 years after the historic event. Steve Forrest, David Birney, Barbara Parkins, and many other prominent actors starred in the show alongside young Kim.
At the time the series was released, Kim must have been only around 21 years old. She looks endearing in the picture, and it's fair to say that now, some 46 years after her first role, the actress is just as charming.
