Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly
One of Hollywood's most iconic actresses and holder of numerous prestigious awards, Meryl Streep played the powerful editor-in-chief of Runway, a chic fashion magazine. The actress revealed that playing Miranda Priestly wasn't easy for her. Meryl's real-life personality is very different from Miranda's, and colleagues and friends know her as a very kind and sympathetic person.
By the way, the character of Miranda was inspired by Anna Wintour, the New York–based editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine. However, Meryl Streep didn't talk with her character's prototype prior to filming so that she could "invent" her own image of Miranda and grow into that role.
Streep said that portraying Wintour was never her goal: she didn't collect any reference materials and in fact, didn't know much about her. But the actress and the Vogue editor did meet once at a charity screening of The Devil Wears Prada. Meryl remembers that Anna sat just two steps away from her and was laughing all the time watching the picture.
Today, 73-year-old Meryl Streep still takes part in movies and in musicals. The Oscar-winning actress has been happily married to Don Gummer for almost 45 years, and the two have raised four children.
Anne Hathaway as Andrea "Andy" Sachs
After the success of The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway became one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood.
In 2006, she was offered to play the leading role in The Devil Wears Prada, where Anne portrayed an assistant to ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly. Anne's character Andrea (Andy) doesn't know much about fashion and has to learn quickly so she can cope with her new job. In just a matter of days, the meek and modest girl becomes a beautiful femme fatale. But in the tough world of fashion, Andy risks losing her natural kindness, compassion, and commitment to justice.
Over the years, Anne Hathaway has starred in many successful films and continues to do so today. The actress is also happily married to actor and jeweler Adam Shulman, with whom she is raising two sons.
Emily Blunt as Emily
Emily Blunt's role as Miranda Priestley's senior assistant in The Devil Wears Prada was a real breakthrough for the actress: following the release of the film, she was offered to play leading roles in many interesting projects. In contrast to Andrea, her character Emily has always dreamed to conquer the world of fashion and become Miranda's right hand.
In the movie, Emily was not particularly nice to Anne Hathaway's character, but in real life, the two actresses became very close while working on the film and continue to be friends now. By the way, it was Anne who introduced her co-star to John Krasinski, Emily's future husband. Today, the couple are raising two sons.
Stanley Tucci as Nigel
Stanley Tucci played a minor role in the film, but his character Nigel was significant in that he was the only person who accepted young and inexperienced Andrea as she just started working for Runway. As the magazine's art director, Nigel helped the girl transform into a real fashionista and build her self-confidence.
The actor is married to Felicity Blunt, and the couple have two children.
Simon Baker as Christian
Christian was the writer who helped Andy complete the impossible task assigned by her boss — find the new yet-to-be-published Harry Potter book for Miranda's twin daughters. He also spent the night with the girl after she had a fight with her long-term boyfriend. However, Christian also wasn't the right man for Andrea.
The Devil Wears Prada was one of the most prominent projects in Baker's acting career. In 2020, the actor divorced Australian actress Rebecca Rigg, who had been his wife for 25 years. The couple have three children together.
