They got together, but they didn't stick together.

As quickly as the volume 1 of The Witcher season 3 was released, it was binged and finished by eager fans, but something was missing from the latest action and adventure-packed installment.

Season 3 focused mostly on Geralt and Yennefer protecting Ciri from the forces out to get her, and started with all 3 members of the trio united. Finally, Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer were together and ready to take on the challenges that lay before them. But, disappointingly, this moment of unity in episode 1 was short-lived as the group quickly went their separate ways, and on to their missions.

Yennefer whisks Ciri off to teach her magic in Aretuza, whilst Geralt embarks on his quest to track down one of their enemies, and this sets the tone for what to expect for the rest of the season, we just didn't know it yet. For the rest of the season, the group is only together for short periods, and it feels like a waste.

Geralt and Yennefer both have important lessons to teach Ciri, bond with her and protect her, but they do not do it together, as there is still a wedge between Yennefer and Geralt.

Yennefer is often isolated from Geralt and Ciri, and communicates with Geralt via letters titled 'Dear Friend.' At this point, Geralt was still upset with Yennefer after she tried to trade Ciri's life for powers in season 2, which is valid, but this divide drags on through the better part of the season and is one of the factors that keep the trio apart.

The dynamic comes across more as two divorced parents brought together to take care of their child, with the rare longing looks and smiles along the way between parents (Geralt and Yennefer) as they realize they still care very much for one another.

The season focuses on all 3 characters, but for the most part, only on two at a time which is disappointing after the first episode teased the trio finally getting together.

We are more than ready to see this occasionally dysfunctional 'found family' truly band together as a team to take on the battles that lie ahead, but we can't wait forever.

The show has already taken 2 seasons to unite them, which was a long time, to begin with, and volume 2 of the third season has only 3 episodes, which doesn't leave much room for 'family time.'

Not having the trio together is wasting so much potential, and it's something that Witcher fans want to see more of, soon. Hopefully, volume 2 will deliver what we have all been waiting for.
