The Witcher Boss Promises Season 4 Will Make You Forget Henry Cavill: Here’s Why

Meet the new Geralt: showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says Season 4 will have fans moving on from Henry Cavill in a heartbeat.
The Witcher is about to run the ultimate recast experiment. Henry Cavill is out as Geralt of Rivia, Liam Hemsworth is in, and the person in charge says you will get used to it fast. Like, under-a-minute fast.
The showrunner is extremely confident about Hemsworth
Speaking with Tudum (Netflix's in-house site, so yes, a little inside baseball), showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich didn’t tiptoe around the Cavill-to-Hemsworth handoff. She fully expects audiences to prefer the new version once they see it.
"Within about 45 seconds, I don't think you really think about it much more. Liam owns this character."
Bold claim, especially considering how loud the backlash was when the recast hit. But Hissrich says Hemsworth won her over from their first meeting: he was upfront about what he loved in earlier seasons and what he wanted to adjust going forward. The pitch here is: same Geralt, evolved approach.
How we got here
Henry Cavill, a very public Witcher diehard, led the series for its first three seasons. He exited in October 2022. Netflix quickly tapped Liam Hemsworth to take over as Geralt for Season 4 and Season 5. Season 5 is already in production, so this isn’t a one-and-done cameo situation — he is the guy now.
What Season 4 is actually about
Season 3 left the Continent shaken, and Season 4 picks up with Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri scattered by war and hunted on all sides. Each of them starts following their own path with sharper goals, picking up some unexpected allies along the way. The theme is found family: if they can accept the people who show up for them, they might actually make it back to each other for good.
The cast you will see when the show returns
- Geralt of Rivia: Liam Hemsworth
- Returning: Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), Freya Allan (Princess Cirilla of Cintra), Joey Batey (Jaskier), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merrigold), Mimi M Khayisa (Fringilla), Cassie Clare (Philippa), Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz)
- New: Laurence Fishburne as Regis
Release plan
All eight episodes of The Witcher Season 4 drop on Netflix on October 30, 2025. Season 5 is already underway, with Hemsworth continuing in the role there too.
