Belated apology follows cascading delays, with officials promising urgent fixes as patience wears thin.

Witcher 3 mod support for consoles is still happening, just not when anyone hoped. CD Projekt Red wanted to sneak this in as part of the game’s 10th anniversary push, but the timeline slipped. Again.

The delay, straight from CD Projekt Red

Back in May, CDPR said it had one last Witcher 3 update in mind for 2025: cross-platform mod support so PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players could finally get a taste of what PC folks have had for years. Today, that plan officially moved out a year.

"We originally planned to introduce cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, but the rollout is now shifting to 2026," CD Projekt Red says in an update to its original announcement. "We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release. Thank you for your patience!"

So yes, the patch is still coming. No, it won’t make the 10th anniversary window anymore. And calling it the final patch might be more of a vibe than a promise at this point.

What you can expect when it lands

  • Cross-platform mod support across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, handled through mod.io.
  • You’ll need a separate mod.io account to use it on any platform.
  • Not every PC mod will carry over. Some won’t make the cut for technical or moderation reasons.
  • Mods will be free.

Why this is a big deal (even with the wait)

Modding has been a huge part of The Witcher 3’s life on PC, and console players have been stuck on the sidelines for a decade. This update finally opens the door, even if it’s a curated version of the full scene. The delay to 2026 is a buzzkill, but if the moderation and tech work means the whole thing doesn’t catch fire on day one, that’s a trade-off I can live with.
