The Wait Is Over: Amazon Sets Release Date for Jack Ryan Movie
Returning star Wendell Pierce just set the clock on the still-untitled action thriller, revealing when it will finally debut.
Jack Ryan is trading a Season 5 for a feature-length mission. John Krasinski’s CIA analyst is getting a movie instead, and we finally have a release window: May 2026. About time.
Release locked: May 2026
The update didn’t come via a splashy announcement. It came from Wendell Pierce, who plays Ryan’s no-nonsense boss James Greer, casually dropping his 2026 schedule on social media. Buried in there was the key line that put a pin in the calendar.
'JACK RYAN (Amazon) May'
That means the untitled Jack Ryan movie lands in just a few months. Pierce, best known to many as Detective Bunk Moreland from The Wire, will be back as Greer for the film.
For Prime Video, it keeps their two-fisted Jack lineup humming along: Alan Ritchson’s bruiser Jack Reacher on one side, Krasinski’s brainy-but-brawny Jack Ryan on the other.
Where we left Jack Ryan
The series kicked off in 2018 and quietly turned Krasinski from sitcom everyman into a credible action lead without losing the charm. Across four seasons (well received by critics and viewers), Ryan’s career went from desk to disaster zone:
Season 1 pulled him out of analyst life when a sketchy trail of bank transfers led to a globe-hopping hunt through Europe and the Middle East. Season 2 sent him to South America to unwind a presidential conspiracy. Season 3 framed him for treason and forced him off the grid. By Season 4, he was acting Deputy Director of the CIA, working through a knot of cartels and terror networks. It’s been three years since that last outing, and in 2024 Amazon pivoted, announcing a movie instead of continuing with Season 5. Then… radio silence, until Pierce’s post.
Wendell Pierce’s 2026 dance card
- Jack Ryan (Amazon) — May
- Power Book III: Raising Kanan (Starz) — June 12
- Othello (Shakespeare Theatre Company) — May 19 to June 21
- Elsbeth (CBS) — Season 4
- The Ever Fonky Lowdown with Wynton Marsalis & Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (Monterey Jazz Fest)
Jack Ryan has always been a movie guy
This character’s film passport is already loaded: Alec Baldwin launched with The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford carried Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, Ben Affleck picked up The Sum of All Fears, and Chris Pine rebooted with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Krasinski’s take has been the steadiest modern run, so graduating him to a movie for Amazon makes sense.
So, what now?
No title yet, no plot tease, just a month. Given the show’s track record, expect Tom Clancy-scale geopolitics with a few practical explosions for good measure. The hook is simple: Krasinski returns as Ryan, Pierce returns as Greer, and the mission arrives May 2026 on Amazon. I’m curious which corner of the Clancy-verse they raid for a feature-length story this time.
