It's going to be a long, long wait.

Bad news, Outlander fans. You're going to have to wait six months to find out what happens in the second part of season 7.

That's right. After the cliffhanger ending of episode 8, you won't find out what happens next until 2024.

In the meantime, Entertainment Weekly spoke to executive producer Maril Davis about what's happened so far and what's to come when we (finally) get to see the final eight episodes.

And her first warning, as if we didn't already know, is of 'troubling things on the horizon and some painful stuff'. Of course, she didn't go into much detail, other than to say, 'Home is never the home you knew. It's never going to be the same.

Asked about the pairing of Roger and Buck, she said they were 'so much fun together' but that it wouldn't be 'easy' for them to go through the stones and find Jem. Although she was quite coy when asked if we should fully trust Buck at this point. So who knows how this storyline will turn out?

She also revealed that much of the final part of Season 7 will take place 'back in the New World'.

All in all, it's going to be a very long wait. It's summer now, and when you're sitting on your sofa, stuffed with turkey, watching Christmas specials four months from now, you still won't have seen the second part of the series.

When you're singing Auld Lang Syne and wishing everyone you know a Happy New Year, you'll still have to wait patiently for Outlander to return.

But it's not all bad news. They say the best things come to those who wait. And let's not forget that there were fifteen months between the end of Season 6 and the first episode of Season 7 - and you made it through. It may have seemed like an eternity, but eventually it arrived.

And you probably have less than half that time to wait until the next new episode. Of course, the second half of the series will almost certainly fly by, leaving you bereft again and playing that all-too-familiar waiting game. But by then, you'll have answers to all the questions that are currently swirling around in your head.

Ultimately, though, there's no escaping the fact that the wait will be brutal.
