General Hospital fans aren’t buying the inheritance twist. After Monica’s death and the bombshell arrival of Ronnie Bard, played by Erika Slezak—who claimed to be her long-lost sister and was named heir—a new poll says Port Charles would rather hand the keys to someone else.

General Hospital pulled one of those classic soap moves: Monica dies, a new relative falls out of the sky, and suddenly the keys to the Quartermaine mansion change hands. Fans had feelings. Loud ones.

The setup

After Monica's death, Port Charles got a surprise visitor: Ronnie Bard, played by Erika Slezak, who introduced herself as Monica's long-lost sister. And in a twist that raised eyebrows all over town, it was later revealed that Ronnie would inherit the mansion. That did not go over well with viewers who figured plenty of people closer to Monica would have made more sense.

What fans picked instead

Soap Opera Digest ran a poll asking fans who should have inherited Monica's house. Here is how the vote broke down, along with why each pick resonated:

  • Jason - 42%: Monica adopted Jason and loved him like her own. After the accident that erased his memory, he pulled away from the family, but over the years he worked to repair things. Leaving the house to him would have been a swing-for-the-heart choice that fit their long, complicated bond.
  • Tracy - 25%: Monica's sister-in-law and forever sparring partner. For years, Tracy insisted Monica was not worthy of her brother's last name, and Monica never missed a chance to remind Tracy whose house it really was. Despite the barbs, Monica considered her family. Fans could see Monica handing the deed to Tracy just to let her finally call it her own.
  • Michael - 21%: Monica's only grandchild. He drifted from his Quartermaine roots growing up but has lately shown up for the family in a big way. Giving him the house would have kept it with the next generation.
  • Ned and Brook Lynn - small percentages: Both got a sliver of support as stalwart Quartermaines with decades of history under that roof.
  • Ronnie - 1%: Despite the storyline crowning her the heir, almost nobody wanted Monica's new sister taking over the mansion.
  • Someone else - 4%: A catch-all for the outside-the-box picks.

Bottom line: viewers overwhelmingly favored keeping Monica's house with the people who actually lived those wars and weddings inside it. The show gave it to the new sister anyway. Soap gonna soap.
