The Voice 2023 Playoffs: Fans Blast Chance the Rapper Over Kala Not Being Picked
Kala was robbed, fans say.
It's been 12 years since The Voice first aired on American TV. As of 2023, the show has spanned 23 seasons, the last of which is currently running. During that time, The Voice has featured many coaches — some more regularly than others, with Blake Shelton being ever present on the singing contest.
In the 23rd season, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper have joined the panel. And The Voice fans have enjoyed them both, finding their addition to the show refreshing. However, in the recent episode, Chance disappointed many viewers with his choice of contestants to go on to the next round.
In Monday's Episode 14, playoffs took place. Ten contestants across Blake Shelton and Chance the Rapper's teams sang their hearts out as the coaches faced very difficult decisions — only two artists from each team could go through to the semi-finals. The young coach kept Sorelle and Ray Uriel, letting the audience down by his decision to send Kala Banham home.
The Voice fans were quick to express their frustration with Chance's picks, as many thought Kala was the most talented on his team and definitely deserved a place in the next round. Moreover, Banham was deemed to have the potential to win the show this season. And the fact that Chance the Rapper didn't see it prompted many people to doubt his competence to be a coach on The Voice.
'I think this just shows that Chance is not a strategic coach. He pretty obviously picked Ray because he's more in his lane musically. I like Ray but Kala was far better and had more of a chance of doing well in the competition,' one Redditor wrote.
Some people on the Internet went as far as to say that Kala was 'robbed' of her place on the show after her immaculate performance of the classic song 'My Funny Valentine.'
Unfortunately, what's done is done. However talented and deserving Kala was, she's not coming back to Chance the Rapper's team.
In the next episode, Kelly Clarkson and Niall Horan's 10 team members will compete for their place in the semi-finals. It will air on NBC on May 8, 2023.
