The Upside Down of TV: 5 Shows to Satisfy Your Stranger Things Season 5 Cravings
Shows that have adventure, drama, love, humor and, of course, mystery.
Filming for the fifth season of Stranger Things began in January. The final chapter will be released in 2025 – the creators have not yet given a more precise date.
So we rounded up five series to help pass the time while you wait for one of Netflix's biggest hits to end.
1. Intruders, 2014
Millie Bobby Brown became a star from the very first episode of Stranger Things, but she was noticed long before that. The series Intruders, which did not last more than one season, tells the story of the investigation of mysterious suicides and the activities of a secret society whose members move into other people's bodies after their own physical death.
Millie plays a 9-year-old girl named Madison whose body is taken over by a serial killer. And if you want to make sure that her success in Stranger Things is no fluke, this series is a vivid confirmation of it.
2. The Kids of Degrassi Street, 1979-1986
This Canadian series about adolescent students has become something of a classic. They study, make friends, fight, make up – and along the way they deal with such adult issues as the death of their parents, teen suicide, early pregnancy, and abortion.
Those who loved the story of Mike and Eleven will surely enjoy the love story of the charming Joey and the young journalist Caitlin. The Kids of Degrassi Street was filmed in the late '80s – maybe we'll see references to it in Stranger Things.
3. Wellington Paranormal, 2018-2022
In 2014, Taika Waititi made the mockumentary film What We Do in the Shadows about a family of vampires slowly terrorizing the population of New Zealand.
Inspired by the topic, TV producers offered the director to make a spin-off about other hilarious events in that part of the world. This time, the story centers on local police officers who are forced to fight paranormal phenomena against their will.
They have neither special funds nor super weapons, but they deal with ghosts and werewolves no worse than Men in Black.
4. 13 Reasons Why, 2017-2020
Teen drama that fans of Stranger Things occasionally compare their favorite show to. The plot revolves around Hannah's suicide, after which her friend Clay finds a box of tapes on his doorstep in which Hannah talks about why she decided to kill herself.
It turns out that the school is riddled with bullying, harassment, and violence that is ignored by both teachers and parents. On one of the tapes, Hannah tells her friend that she also blames him for her death, and that he needs to listen to all of these recordings.
5. The Wrong Mans, 2013-2014
British actor Alec Utgoff became a worldwide favorite as the scientist defector in Stranger Things, but that's not where his career began.
One of his first notable television roles was in the British sitcom The Wrong Mans, about two losers, one of whom picks up a cell phone at the scene of a car accident and finds himself in the middle of a real-life mafia showdown.
Alec Utgoff plays two characters at once, one of whom is the vengeful brother of an eccentric millionaire. Those who adore the actor in a positive role will certainly appreciate him as a bad guy.
