The Strangers Chapter 3 Is Coming Sooner Than You Think
The Strangers Chapter 3 is stalking an early 2026 release, director Renny Harlin confirms, landing hot on Chapter 2’s heels from a trilogy shot back-to-back since 2024 and continuing the modern reimagining led by Madelaine Petsch.
Good news for anyone who just walked out of Chapter 2 and is already side-eyeing their front door: The Strangers Chapter 3 is not some far-off mirage. It is locked in for early 2026, which means you will not be waiting a full year.
Director Renny Harlin dropped the timing at San Diego Comic-Con, telling The Direct that the third film is aiming for the first stretch of next year. He also made it clear they are not trying to cram it into the holiday rush.
'I would say that early next year is what it's looking like.'
'No, it won't be this year. We are finishing it up right now, so it'll be done by the time Chapter 2 comes out... but there's no time before Christmas and everything.'
Quick translation: Chapter 3 is basically finished. Post-production is nearly wrapped, and Harlin said back at Comic-Con that it would be complete by the time Chapter 2 hit theaters (which it now has). They shot all three movies back-to-back, which is why the turnaround is this fast. Inside baseball, sure, but it matters here.
This new run is a modern retelling of the original home-invasion story, with Madelaine Petsch leading as Maya. Harlin says the finale is where things get truly bleak.
'Chapter 3 goes into a very, very dark place.'
He added that each entry intentionally escalates, getting more physical and more psychologically gnarly as it goes. Petsch previously hinted the trilogy leans harder into paranoia the deeper you get; Harlin backed that up and promised a raw, realistic take on Maya's transformation. Because they filmed consecutively, he says he could track Maya across roughly four and a half hours of story, from vulnerable in the first film to... whatever she becomes by the end of the third.
