He was too chill for it.

Robert Pattinson's rise to fame is often associated with his portrayal of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga. However, long before that, the actor made a brief but memorable appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory, the Hufflepuff Quidditch captain whose tragic death caused a lot of turmoil.

But while Pattinson's performance was certainly impressive, his audition story is kind of disappointing.

Pattinson's Journey to Landing the Role Is Not What You Expect

We're used to hearing stories of actors battling it out for roles, enduring challenging preparation methods and countless rejections before finally landing a part. But to the disappointment of some, it turns out there's no big story behind Pattinson's journey to landing the role in the franchise. In fact, it was far from the grueling audition process that many other actors often go through.

During an interview for the original Goblet of Fire film junket, the star disclosed that he was well-prepared going into his audition as he had read the book beforehand.

'There wasn't any part of the character which I didn't think I could play. And the thing is — I don't know if that's arrogant or not, but I just felt quite at ease with it. And I went into my second audition really confident. Like, I read it in a day and I just thought, 'Ah yeah, I could do that,'' he disclosed.

Pattinson further attributed the victorious outcome to his confidence and a strong desire to succeed. 'I just really wanted to do it really well because I'm still young and everything, and a relatively inexperienced actor. And because there were so many famous actors in it. I was just concentrating a lot and I put quite a lot of work into it at the beginning,' he explained.

Pattinson's portrayal of Cedric was undoubtedly nuanced and memorable, making his untimely death all the more heartbreaking for fans of the franchise. That said, the fact that Pattinson didn't have to fight tooth and nail for the role seems anticlimactic to those who like hearing stories of actors pushing their limits to get the part.

In the cutthroat world of entertainment, it's easy to assume that every actor has to work tirelessly to prove themselves but in Pattinson's case, it seems that the role felt natural to him and the stars simply aligned in his favor.

Robert Pattinson's Cedric Diggory remains a beloved part of the Harry Potter universe, and his portrayal of the character will always be remembered by fans. And who knows? Maybe if he hadn't landed this one so easily, we wouldn't have had the pleasure of seeing him in other iconic roles down the line. Sometimes, things just work out the way they're meant to.
