The cult series has once again predicted global events. Or is it just another conspiracy?

For years, people have built conspiracy theories around Matt Groening's animated sitcom The Simpsons, as many believed certain episodes literally foreshadowed events to come. From Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox and Trump becoming president to a global pandemic, fans have already seen these things happen on The Simpsons.

And while there's really nothing mystical about it, as the show's creators are just drawing from existing speculations and theories to write the plot, some viewers can't help but find more and more 'sings' in The Simpsons.

This time, many people were hoaxed into believing that the shape of Homer's ear had something to do with Meta's recently launched platform Threads, Mark Zuckerberg's analog of Twitter. The new social networking site has roughly the same structure and principles as Elon Musk's platform and incorporates features and icons from Instagram, also owned by Meta.

The subject of the new viral meme was Threads' app logo, which some people thought was reminiscent of a character in the Tamil or Malay alphabet. For others, it looked oddly similar to Homer's auricle.

'Life imitates art,' a Twitter user cleverly commented on the comparison.

Alas, The Simpsons did not actually predict the emergence of a Twitter clone and a feud between Musk and Zuckerberg. The picture turned out to be a joke by the author of the post, who didn't expect his tweet to become viral. If you look at the original cartoon, you'll see that Homer's auricle and the hair above his ear have a different shape, forming an 'M' and a 'G' — the initials of creator Matt Groening.

So what's the takeaway for all of us here? Well, don't trust random memes on the Internet and pay attention to characters' appearance to avoid being tricked! And although the Matt Groening show has been right on the money with its predictions several times, sometimes life is still more surprising than The Simpsons.
