Yellowstone fans won’t spot Rip or Beth in Marshals. Spencer Hudnut’s neo-western follows Kayce Dutton as he leaves the ranch to join an elite unit, a fresh direction that explains their absence.

If you fired up Marshals and immediately wondered where Beth and Rip vanished to, you are not alone. Here’s the clean version of what the new show is doing, where those two ended up, and why you are not seeing them (yet).

What Marshals is focused on

Marshals puts the spotlight squarely on Kayce Dutton. Created by Spencer Hudnut, the neo-western follows Kayce, a former U.S. Navy SEAL and rancher, as he steps away from the Yellowstone ranch and into a new chapter: an elite unit of U.S. Marshals charged with keeping Montana in check. The first episode just dropped, and the show is clearly planting its flag in Kayce’s new life, casework, and moral compass.

So, where are Beth and Rip?

They bought a smaller ranch in Dillon, Montana, and moved there. That keeps them in the same general region as Kayce, with Dillon sitting about 40 miles from the Bozeman area — close enough for a quick drive, distant enough to live their own lives.

How Yellowstone left the Duttons

Yellowstone did not tiptoe into its ending. Multiple characters died, including the big one: John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. The fallout reshaped the family. By the end, only two of John’s kids were still standing: Beth and Kayce. Both landed on endings that felt conclusive for now.

When the Yellowstone ranch was sold, Kayce, Monica, and Tate kept the East Camp as part of the deal. With the main house set to be torn down, Beth and Rip chose to start fresh in Dillon. They moved there with their adopted son, Carter. That is where Marshals finds them — offscreen, but not far away.

Why they are not in Marshals right now

Early episodes have one job: make Kayce’s badge matter. Beth and Rip’s drama would tilt the center of gravity before the show finishes building its own. Could they pop up? Absolutely. The geography (and the franchise) make a cameo an easy lift. And there is an upcoming series, Dutton Ranch, that is set to put a brighter spotlight on Beth, Rip, and Carter — which explains why Marshals is not burning their material here.

  • Kayce is the lead in Marshals, now riding with an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana.
  • Beth and Rip bought a smaller ranch in Dillon and moved there with their adopted son, Carter.
  • After Yellowstone’s finale and the sale of the ranch, Kayce, Monica, and Tate kept the East Camp; the main house was slated for demolition.
  • John Dutton (Kevin Costner) died; by the end, only Beth and Kayce remained from his children.
  • Marshals is holding its focus on Kayce; cameos are possible down the road, and Dutton Ranch is poised to give Beth and Rip more screen time.

Short version: Marshals is Kayce’s show. Beth and Rip are nearby, happy to let him carry this one — until the story (or timing) says otherwise.
