The Rainmaker Season 2: Cast and Crew Tease Twists, High-Stakes Cases, and Surprise Returns
After a breakout 2025 run that kicked off August 15, The Rainmaker locks Season 2 for 2026 on Peacock and USA Network, with the cast returning and creators Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman teasing where the next case will go.
The Rainmaker is coming back for Season 2, but the plan is not as simple as a standard victory lap. USA Network says the show will be back in 2026 on both USA and Peacock, after becoming one of 2025's breakout hits. The twist: the creative team might shake up who actually returns.
What got us here
- Season 1 premiered August 15, 2025 and wrapped October 17, 2025.
- Created by Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman, the legal drama adapts John Grisham's 1995 novel.
- Milo Callaghan stars as Rudy Baylor, a rookie lawyer who takes on a massive healthcare corporation.
- Roughly 16 million people showed up for the debut.
- Season 2 will air on USA Network and stream on Peacock in 2026.
- Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partners on the series.
Season 2: locked in, but with a big creative question mark
USA Network has officially set The Rainmaker to return in 2026, but showrunner Michael Seitzman is playing with some bold ideas. He told TV Insider he may not bring everyone from Season 1 forward into the next chapter. The way he put it:
'I have a lot of ideas for Season 2, but none of them have really calcified yet in my mind, and some of them include those characters, and some of them don't. There’s a part of me that wonders if we just completely wipe the slate clean in Season 2, and the characters who are not in trouble come back, and the other characters who were in trouble, we treat that as backstory.'
He also called the question of who returns 'a tricky thing.' Translation: even with the renewal in the bag, the cast lineup is not guaranteed. So if you saw early chatter promising the whole gang back, take a beat.
The star is ready to go long
Milo Callaghan, meanwhile, sounds all-in. He is game for a seven-season run, hopes the Season 1 crew reunites, and wants a fresh big bad to square off against. Even if Seitzman opts for a partial reset, Callaghan clearly plans to be a constant.
Network read on the renewal
Network exec Val Boreland framed the decision as building on momentum: The Rainmaker is back on USA Network in 2026, with Seitzman at the helm and partners Lionsgate and Blumhouse along for the ride, promising another gripping chapter for viewers. Given those premiere numbers and the summer-to-fall run it had in 2025, it tracks.
Bottom line: The Rainmaker returns in 2026 on USA and Peacock. Expect new cases. Expect at least some familiar faces. But the creative team is seriously considering a fresh configuration, which is gutsy and, frankly, kind of intriguing for a sophomore season.
