Bloomberg’s latest DC rundown, sparked by talk of a possible Netflix bid for Warner Bros., has fans buzzing that HBO’s The Penguin is circling a Season 2 pickup.

File this under: unexpected but promising. A new season of HBO's The Penguin might be quietly moving forward, and the breadcrumb came from a place you probably were not looking.

So, what actually happened?

Bloomberg ran a piece about Netflix potentially buying Warner Bros. and what that would mean for DC. Tucked into that report was a quick status check on DC Studios projects. Alongside mentions of James Gunn's Superman and the upcoming Supergirl movie, Bloomberg noted that a second season of The Penguin is in the works, as is a true-crime style series built around Gorilla Grodd.

  • Bloomberg says The Penguin Season 2 is in development
  • A Gorilla Grodd true-crime series is also being cooked up
  • The report also name-checks Superman and Supergirl as part of DC's near-term slate

How solid is this?

Nothing is officially announced. But this is not coming out of nowhere either. Earlier this year, Matt Reeves said he, showrunner Lauren LeFranc, Colin Farrell, and executive producer Dylan Clark have been talking about continuing Oz's story. Back in February, Farrell also said he was up for a second season and game to keep playing Oswald after suiting up again in the next The Batman film.

Fans heard it and immediately started fantasy-booking

Once the Bloomberg note hit, DC fans lit up social media with Season 2 wish lists. The popular pitch: Penguin versus Two-Face. Others were just happy at the idea that Oz could be back for another run.

Reminder: The first season was a legit hit

The Penguin scored strong reviews, pulled in awards attention, and gave Farrell another victory lap. The show notched three Golden Globe nominations, and Farrell won Best Actor — Miniseries or Television Film for playing Oswald 'Oz' Cobb. For Warner Bros. Discovery and everyone involved, it was a win across the board.

Bottom line

A formal greenlight has not been dropped yet, but between Bloomberg's industry-side whisper and the creative team openly saying they want to keep going, the odds of The Penguin Season 2 feel better than good. If it happens, expect Oz to consolidate more power — and do not be surprised if a certain coin-flipping DA ends up in his way.
