The Outer Worlds 2: How Many Planets There Really Are — Full List of Worlds and Locations
Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 rockets you into deep space with six planets to explore—if you can unlock them. From early hurdles to endgame gauntlets, here’s how to access every world and keep your starbound adventure moving.
Outer Worlds 2 takes you back into Obsidian's brand of corporate dystopia in deep space, and yes, you do get to planet-hop. The catch: the game only opens up new destinations as you push the main story forward. If you're wondering when that next horizon shows up on your star map, here’s the clean breakdown.
How unlocking planets actually works
There are six main planetary destinations total. You don’t unlock them by grinding side gigs or scanning rocks; you unlock them by finishing specific main quests. Once a planet opens up, head to the Incognito's control room, hit the navigation terminal, pick your destination, and off you go.
The six planets and the quests that open them
- Eden — The most populated moon in the game and your first landing zone. Unlocks as part of the early mainline quest A Cause Worth Killing For.
- Dorado — Desert-heavy and rich in natural resources. Opens during The Saboteur of Paradise.
- The ACS Undisputed Claim — A hub for advanced medical facilities, activities, and trading. Becomes available in Fiends in High Places.
- Free Market Station — Built around Auntie Choice's ship and perfect for unloading goods. Also tied to Fiends in High Places.
- Cloister — An ice-locked world that houses the Archive. Yep, also unlocked by Fiends in High Places.
- Praetor — Nasty atmospheric currents and tougher enemies make this one spicy. You guessed it: unlocked via Fiends in High Places.
Notice a pattern? That mid-game quest Fiends in High Places blows the doors open on most of the map at once. It’s a big pivot point, so if you’re itching to see new vistas, sprint the main story until you hit it.
Getting around
Once something is unlocked, travel is straightforward: sit down at the Incognito's navigation terminal in the control room, select where you want to go, and the ship handles the commute. No weird hoops beyond finishing the right quests.
Will we get more planets later?
If six planets feels a little lean to you, you’re not alone. Compared to a galaxy-sized buffet like Starfield, this is a tighter, curated tour. As for post-launch plans: there’s no official word on additional planets yet. What is confirmed is that Obsidian is developing two story expansions for Outer Worlds 2. We don’t have details on where those expansions go, what they add, or when they land, but fingers crossed they lean into exploration.
