The Only Outlander Character That Is Absolutely Irredeemable, According to Fans
This may be an unpopular opinion, but a traumatic past does not automatically make a person evil.
Outlander has witnessed its fair share of divisive characters throughout its six-and-a-half-season run, but arguably the most controversial of them all is Malva Christie. She was both a victim and a villain in Season 6 and still incites heated fan discussions on social media.
One must concede that the moment when Malva accused Jamie of impregnating her was exceedingly frustrating. And as the story unfolded, the viewers' anger only intensified.
What Happened To Malva
When Malva Christie first arrived at Fraser's Ridge with her father, Tom and brother Allan, both Jamie and Claire treated her with kindness. Claire even took her under her wing and trained her as an apprentice. But what did she get in return?
Malva deliberately infected Claire with dysentery, hoping she would die so that Malva could seduce Jamie while consoling him. After all, he was the most successful and affluent man in the area. When Claire survived her illness, and Jamie remained immune to Malva's charms, she accused him of getting her pregnant, revealing her calculating and manipulative nature.
Will Outlander Season 8 Delay Lead to It Being Canceled by STARZ?Soon after, Malva was discovered dead in Claire's garden, making Claire the prime suspect. Fortunately, Malva's father, Tom, took the blame and secured Claire's freedom. As it turned out, he did this to protect his own son, Allan, who had been engaged in an incestuous sexual relationship with his sister for years and, when she became pregnant, assisted her in devising a plan to frame Jamie. When Malva attempted to reveal the truth to Claire, he murdered her.
Does This Redeem Malva, Though?
Malva's story is truly heartrending and evokes compassion. Her father always perceived evil in all women and physically disciplined his daughter, while her brother coerced her into an abusive relationship with him.
However, Outlander fans can't help but question whether the dysfunctional family and horrific background can serve as sufficient justification for all the harm Malva inflicted on the Frasers, who could have actually helped her get a new life if she had been honest with them. And their answer is no, 'there was no way to redeem the Malva we saw on the screen.'
