Get ready to unearth another adventure: Oded Fehr says he, Brendan Fraser, and other The Mummy (1999) stars would happily return for a new sequel.

So, about The Mummy 4: the idea isn’t dead, it’s just been wandering the desert. And now one of the original cast members says the gang would happily suit up again if Universal calls.

Where this started

Last year, industry scooper Daniel Richtman said his sources told him Universal has three Mummy projects simmering, with one pitched as a straight sequel to the Brendan Fraser era. With Fraser back on top of the world after his Oscar for The Whale, fans have been hoping that means a real shot at Rick O'Connell riding again.

Quick history lesson: after The Mummy (1999), we got The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. There was once a plan for a fourth called The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec, but that got tossed when Universal chased the now-defunct Dark Universe reboot instead. Since Richtman’s report, it’s been crickets.

The new spark

During a chat with JoBlo’s Tyler Nichols, original cast member Oded Fehr said the core cast would love to come back. He couldn’t confirm anything is actually happening, but his read on the business side was blunt and not wrong.

"What I can tell you is that if there’s a possibility that it will make money, they’ll try and do it. Like you, I hope that we get a chance to do this again. I can tell you that we all would be happy to do it again. Seeing everybody again, it’s like, my God, I’d be the most blessed human being to get to work with these guys again. Everybody’s so lovely, it’d be a blessing."

Reunions keep happening

The cast has been popping up together a lot this year. At Fan Expo Denver, Brendan Fraser and Oded Fehr reunited with Patricia Velásquez and John Hannah. They’re also set to link up again at Twin Cities Con in Minneapolis this month, with Corey Johnson joining the panel. No official sequel news at those events, but the timing and the good vibes are hard to miss.

What this actually means

Nothing is greenlit, but the math Fehr hints at is the math that matters: if Universal thinks a Fraser-led sequel can make money, they’ll take a swing. Combine that with Richtman’s claim that multiple Mummy projects are in development and one is a direct follow-up, and the door is very much open.

  • The Rick O'Connell run so far: The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
  • The almost-was: The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec (scrapped)
  • The detour: Universal’s Dark Universe reboot that fizzled

Bottom line: the cast is game, the studio likes money, and the audience nostalgia is there. Would you show up for another Brendan Fraser Mummy movie?
