It's only been a few days since season three of The Morning Show wrapped, but fans are already looking forward to the next installment. The show, which follows Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson, the morning hosts of the fictional UBA Network, has been one of Apple TV+'s flagship projects alongside Ted Lasso since the streaming service's inception.
Premiering in 2019, The Morning Show proved to be an instant success. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, who portray the main characters, are arguably the main reason for the series' popularity with hordes of fans from around the world. But the show's uncanny storytelling also resonates with audiences.
In this light, it's no surprise that TMS has spanned three seasons and has been renewed for a fourth installment even before Season 3 premiered. Don't get too excited yet, though, as the showrunner isn't about to sugarcoat the upcoming stories.
The Morning Show's Narrative
TMS was created by Kerry Ehrin, who also served as writer and showrunner for the first two seasons – the seasons that define our understanding of the show. However, starting with Season 3, Charlotte Stoudt took over and added many more dramatic twists to the script.
As a result, at the end of the last season we see Bradley arrested and Alex promoted to the UBA network board. The gap between the two characters couldn't be more yawning. And Season 4 will further explore their new relationship.
Plans for Season 4
According to Stoudt, it's too early to reveal any plans for the upcoming installment, as it's only been in production for a month since the end of the WGA strike. However, the showrunner promises to explore the hardships faced by Alex and Bradley.
'We just started the season four room, it's literally such early days. But we're absolutely going to play out the consequences of what we saw in season three – in every sense and for every character. If we asked the audience to go on that ride, then we have to honor that ride,' Charlotte Stoudt revealed in an interview.
In particular, Season 4 may focus on the changes Alex will undergo as a result of her new position. After all, she now represents power, and as someone who has challenged the powerful throughout the three seasons, she'll have to ask herself a lot of difficult questions.
'So there may be a little of that. It's one thing to throw spitballs from the sidelines, but when you're someone in charge, the equation becomes a little different. I think it would be good to see her struggle with all of that – in her very funny Alex way,' Stoudt teased.
More significantly, we can expect a time jump that will make us question what happened and how it affected Alex and Bradley. But ultimately, the showrunner promised to be respectful of the characters and their loving audience.
