The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Midge's 3 Famous Ex-Husbands, Explained
Those who love music should be able to recognize at least two out of three without Google.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is now in the middle of its final fifth season, and every single fan is itching to see how the story of a New York housewife and aspiring stand-up comedian is going to conclude in the remaining episodes. Season 5 started off in a rather unorthodox manner, presenting the audience with sequences from a fictional documentary about the protagonist's life and career, filmed decades after the series' main story.
Among other things, the documentary mentions that Mrs. Maisel remarried three times after divorcing her first husband, and we even get to know her husbands' names — they are none other than Paul Simon, Robert Evans, and Quincy Jones.
As those who are familiar with the history of American music and cinema might attest, marrying these three men was perhaps Midge's biggest and most improbable achievement — and it surely is a bit of comedic exaggeration on the writers' part, making their character's story appear 'larger than life.' So who are these three men, exactly?
Let's start with Paul Simon. A singer famous as one half of the folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, as well as for his successful solo career, Simon is one of the most decorated artists of the 20th century, winning no less than 16 Grammy Awards for his personal and collaborative works. He is now 81 and has been retired since last year.
Quincy Jones might have been a bit less noticeable to the public than Simon, as he isn't a performer himself — but he is a songwriter, composer, arranger, and producer.
He worked with many titans of music, wrote songs and scores for many great films, and was just incredibly prolific throughout his long career — so it's no wonder Jones has received as many as 28 Grammy Awards, putting him in third place for the total number of Grammys won. The artist is currently 90 years old.
And last but not least, Robert Evans was a very important figure in the history of cinema. As a producer and studio executive at Paramount, he oversaw creation of a number of famous movies, including Rosemary's Baby (1968), Love Story (1970), and Godfather (1972). Unfortunately, the filmmaker died in 2019.
So isn't that amazing? Miriam Maisel, a former New York housewife, eventually managed to become so successful and famous, she was able to marry three of the most influential and powerful men in the world of entertainment in the 1960s and 70s.
Fans were definitely glad to find out about this future development in Midge's life and thankful to the show's writers for introducing the three real-world 'husbands' into her fictional story. Now, how about releasing the full documentary after the show's final episode is aired?
