Season 2 of the main zombie series of our time is on its way.

Millions watched every episode of The Last of Us in 2023, setting one HBO record after another. The post-apocalyptic story of the unlikely friendship between the brutal but soft-hearted smuggler Joel and an orphan with a unique immunity, Ellie, will return for a second season in 2025.

We tell you what we already know about the second season and who will be joining Joel and Ellie in the fight against zombies.

Will Bella Ramsey Continue to Play Ellie?

There is a five-year time jump between the two parts of the game–- and during the journey through the US, devastated by a pandemic that turns people into evil zombies, Ellie obviously has to grow up.

Showrunner Craig Mazin said that Bella Ramsey will continue to play Ellie, but the image of the actress will change, and recalled: Bella played a 14-year-old girl in the first season when she was 19.

Season 2 New Cast Members

Each day, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie will continue to explore the decaying world, losing loved ones and searching for a vaccine that will stop the Cordyceps fungus and return the world to normal, but new faces will also join the survivors.

Jeffrey Wright will be returning from the second part of the game to reprise his role as Isaac, who opposes the military and teams up with a woman named Abby, who has a personal score to settle with Joel.

Abby was one of the characters in the game that could not be avoided. Kaitlyn Dever, whom fans of the game had previously predicted for the role of Ellie, will be hunting for Joel. And you don't have to remember the game to know that Pedro Pascal's character is in serious danger.

Young Masino will be coming to The Last of Us from the series about hatred Beef to play Ellie's new friend, Jesse.

In the second season, as in the original game, Ellie will get closer to a new character, Dina. Photos of the girls riding a horse together have been leaked from the set, and actress Isabela Merced has been cast for the role.

Season 2 Will Have a Smaller Number of Episodes

Mazin and Neil Druckmann clarified that the second season of The Last of Us will have seven episodes, two fewer than the first. At the same time, Mazin assured that the season will not be shorter overall. In addition, one of the episodes of the second season will be closer in length to a feature-length movie.

The season is based on the events of the sequel The Last of Us Part II. It follows Joel and Ellie several years after the events of the original game. They are going through a relationship crisis due to Ellie's inevitable maturation. The girl goes on a dangerous journey, driven by revenge and discovering more and more rage within herself.
