The Highly-Anticipated Freaky Friday Sequel Is 'In the Process,' Lindsay Lohan Says
However, there are no details about the upcoming flick yet.
Summary
- People have been waiting for a sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday for years.
- Lindsay Lohan recently announced that the sequel is finally in the works.
- Jamie Lee Curtis may be the one to thank for the upcoming movie.
Few films have had as profound a cultural impact as Mark Waters' 2003 version of Freaky Friday. Adapted from Mary Rodgers' novel of the same name and starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the film was a runaway hit upon its release, grossing a staggering $161 million against a $26 million budget.
It's no exaggeration to say that it's the best adaptation of the story of the six films in the franchise. For this reason, generations of viewers have been looking forward to a possible sequel to Curtis and Lohan's Freaky Friday for decades. And it looks like those dreams are finally coming true.
The Sequel Is Underway
Lindsay Lohan, who is starring in the Netflix romantic comedy Irish Wish, due out on March 15, has recently confirmed that the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel is currently in the works at Disney, with her and Jamie Lee Curtis on board. Unfortunately, the actress hasn't given any details about the production, so it's not known if the script is even finished, let alone when filming will begin.
'Just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it,' Lindsay Lohan shared in a recent interview.
Interestingly, the actress is adamant that the upcoming movie will be very enjoyable as she and Jamie Lee Curtis have been talking about it for quite some time and are very excited to reprise their iconic role, albeit over twenty years after the original film's debut.
'We talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this,' Lohan said.
The Sequel's Long Journey to Fruition
While people had long been craving a Freaky Friday sequel, it was Jamie Lee Curtis who rekindled the public interest in it a couple of years ago.
'As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, "It feels like there's a movie to be made,"' the actress said in an interview last year.
As a result, there was a lot of buzz around the sequel rumor. And it seems that Curtis has managed to take that hype and turn it into a real movie. And even though the actual plot of the sequel is unknown, it's clear that the movie is destined to be a hit, so we're looking forward to it.
