The Great British Bake Off 2025 Eliminations: Every Contestant Sent Home From Season 16

The list of contestants who didn't survive the tent keeps growing.
Bake Off is back on Channel 4, and the tent is officially open for business again. Fifteen years since it first hit TV, we kicked off with Cake Week, some surprisingly savage tasks, and the first elimination of the season.
What went down in Week 1
Classic first-episode energy: everyone trying to look calm while quietly panicking. It was their first shot at Star Baker, and the challenges did not arrive gently.
- Signature: A Swiss roll with an inlay design — so not just a neat swirl, but a baked-in pattern on the sponge itself. Tricky on a normal day, chaotic when it is the first thing you do in the tent.
- Technical: Fondant fancies — with a twist. The bakers had to reverse-engineer both the flavors and the recipe. That is unusually harsh for a Week 1 Technical and very inside-baseball for Bake Off: fewer instructions than usual, more guesswork, still expected to look shop-window perfect.
- Showstopper: A full-on landscape cake. Think scenery, textures, and multiple components — all cake, all edible, all in a few hours.
Who left Bake Off this week?
Hassan became the first baker to leave the tent. Host Alison Hammond delivered the news at the end of the Showstopper.
"I think I am a bit upset, but I did expect it. Everyone is such a phenomenal baker, they are all such lovely people. And even though it is been a short-lived experience I have enjoyed it. Hopefully I can reflect on some things and then maybe get back to baking when I get a chance."
"Honestly for my first ever bake in the tent to come out looking like that was appalling to say the least, for all the practice and work put into it. On the positive side, it tasted better than it looked, I guess?"
Hassan pointed to the Swiss roll as the moment things went sideways. Once that first bake did not land, it threw off the rest of his day — which happens more often than the show admits.
What is next
The Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday 9 September at 8pm. New week, new theme, fresh stress. See you back in the tent.
