Lady Gaga joins The Devil Wears Prada 2, supercharging the star-studded sequel, Variety reports.

Well, that got interesting fast. Lady Gaga is joining The Devil Wears Prada 2, instantly turning an already buzzy sequel into a louder, glossier thing. The catch: nobody is saying what she is actually doing in it yet.

Gaga steps into the Prada-verse

Per Variety, Gaga is on board in an undisclosed role. Could be a full-on part, could be a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo. For anyone keeping score, yes, Gaga is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, and she just finished a run of sold-out shows at London's O2 arena. On the acting front, she jumped out in 2018's A Star Is Born, which got her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, followed that up with Ridley Scott's House of Gucci in 2021, and most recently turned up opposite Joaquin Phoenix in 2024's Joker: Folie a Deux as Harley "Lee" Quinzel.

So what is this sequel actually about?

Officially, the studio is keeping things zipped. Unofficially, Variety says the movie is shaping up to follow Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly trying to keep her empire standing as old-school magazine publishing keeps shrinking. The wrinkle: she ends up across the table from her former assistant Emily (Emily Blunt), who has leveled up into a power player at a luxury conglomerate that controls the ad money Miranda needs. That setup makes sense, and it is ripe for sharp, icy standoffs.

Who is in it

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all back. On top of that core, the cast list is stacked in a way that suggests this sequel wants to feel big and current. Also, Donatella Versace showing up is a fun little flex.

  • Meryl Streep
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Emily Blunt
  • Stanley Tucci
  • Tracie Thoms
  • Tibor Feldman
  • Kenneth Branagh
  • Simone Ashley
  • Lucy Liu

  • B.J. Novak
  • Pauline Chalamet
  • Helen J. Shen
  • Conrad Ricamora

Behind the camera

David Frankel, who directed the original 2006 film, is back in the chair. Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the first movie's screenplay, is writing the sequel too. That continuity is promising.

Bottom line: details on Gaga's role are under wraps, but whether she's a scene-stealing cameo or a full-blown new power player, the sequel just upped its fashion-plate chaos factor in a big way.
