The Dead 3 Rises: Ford Brothers Return With the Long-Awaited Zombie Sequel
The dead are walking again—ten years after The Dead and The Dead 2: India, the Ford Brothers are resurrecting their relentless zombie saga with The Dead 3.
Zombie die-hards, you finally got your wish. After a decade of fans asking (read: hounding) them, the Ford Brothers say The Dead 3 is on the way. Yes, the same duo who once made shooting zombie movies feel like a survival sport are gearing up for the last chapter.
Quick refresher on the Fords
Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford kicked off their feature careers with the 1994 action flick Mainline Run. They’ve both dabbled in solo work since, but their calling card is the two scrappy, globe-trotting zombie films they directed together: The Dead (2010), set and shot in Africa, and its 2013 follow-up The Dead 2: India. Those movies built a cult following and a steady drumbeat for one more entry. Now they’ve answered it.
What The Dead 3 is actually about
They’re keeping the new movie’s exact location under wraps for now, but they did drop a plot outline. Picture this: the world is already a mess, and a man whose family has been murdered discovers a worldwide scheme behind the undead outbreak. He cuts a path through a lethal wasteland to go after the people he holds responsible — not random shamblers, but the corporate ultra-rich hiding in cushy island fortresses, waiting to collect what’s left as the planet burns because of their own greed. It’s a revenge mission with a pointed target and plenty of arterial spray.
"I wrote The Dead 3 with more terror, anger and rage coursing through my veins than any 'sane' human being should ever know! This, the final and most important film of the trilogy, is going to shock, outrage, and please, in equal measure ! It’s been a long time coming.."
"I get asked almost every day if we are ever going to make The Dead 3 and given the challenges and real life near-death of both 1 and 2 on the incredibly arduous productions we’ve not yet jumped at it, but with Jon’s fiery inspirations to dive back in with a killer script I feel 2026 is the now-or never for the third and final chapter!"
Two things worth flagging there. One, they’re calling this the last film in the trilogy — and the one that matters most to them. Two, the plan is to make it happen for 2026. If you remember the war stories from the first two shoots (these guys almost didn’t make it home), you can understand why they took their time. Sounds like Jon’s script lit the fuse again.
Franchise at a glance
- 1994: Mainline Run — the Ford Brothers’ feature debut (action).
- 2010: The Dead — zombie survival story set in Africa; became their breakout.
- 2013: The Dead 2: India — follow-up set in India.
- 2026 (target): The Dead 3 — intended final chapter; setting TBA; revenge-driven plot aimed at the corporate super-rich hiding on island strongholds.
No cast yet, no filming location reveal, just a promise of a blood-soaked endgame with something to say. If they deliver the same sun-baked dread and practical bite as the first two — plus this angrier, eat-the-rich angle — The Dead 3 could be a nasty little exclamation point to close the book.
