The Creep Tapes creeps back this November on Shudder, with season 2 continuing the unnerving Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice franchise.

Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice took the long way from the indie found-footage hit Creep to TV, but the pivot clearly worked. Their series The Creep Tapes quietly became a monster for Shudder and AMC+, and now season 2 is locked in for November 14. If you like your horror uncomfortably intimate and your killers painfully awkward, clear the calendar.

How we got here

Back in 2014, Brice and Duplass teamed with Blumhouse on Creep, which spawned a 2017 sequel, Creep 2. The plan then was a trilogy capper. Instead, they scrapped the third movie and built a series: The Creep Tapes. That first season dropped last November on Shudder and AMC+ and, by the platform’s own bragging rights, became the most watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+ and the strongest November launch in Shudder history. Translation: big numbers, bigger word of mouth.

What season 2 is doing

Same unnerving premise, new victims. The show continues to unspool a stash of videotapes from a secret vault belonging to, let’s be honest, TV’s most lethal and socially uncomfortable serial killer. He lures videographers with the promise of a paid gig documenting his life. Then the weirdness ramps up, intentions turn murky, and you realize the job listing should have come with a skull-and-crossbones watermark.

This new run is another six episodes. Brice and Duplass are again writing the show, with Brice directing every episode.

Who is in it

Duplass is back in front of the camera, and he is bringing a very choice lineup of victims and foils with him:

  • David Dastmalchian - Late Night with the Devil
  • Robert Longstreet - The Haunting of Hill House
  • Katie Aselton - Black Rock
  • Diego Josef - There's Someone Inside Your House
  • Desean Terry - The Morning Show
  • Alec Bewkes - Lo$t BoyZ
  • Linas Phillips - Spree
  • Taylor Garron - Abbott Elementary
  • Timm Sharp - M3GAN 2.0
  • Jody Lambert - Banana Split
  • Jeff Man - Creep 2

Behind the camera

The Creep Tapes is produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and Shudder. Executive producers are Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, along with Mel Eslyn, Jay Duplass, and Chris Donlon, with Shuli Harel as co-executive producer.

The creators on going even weirder

"We made the first season of The Creep Tapes completely independently, so we were able to truly and unabashedly get our freak on. The fact that so many of you watched it that Shudder not only asked us for more but asked us to go even further this time around? That’s just... really, really unsettling. And terrifically exciting."

- Mark Duplass

"We are beyond delighted at the opportunity to bring audiences fresh kills from the closet in a second season of The Creep Tapes! For the series to have found such a rabid audience at Shudder is an absolute dream. It seems ridiculous to apply the term 'labor of love' to such an insane franchise, but it's the truth. We can't wait to dive back in."

- Patrick Brice

Season 2 is set for November 14. Season 1 hit both Shudder and AMC+, so expect a similar rollout. And if this crew is promising to push it further, brace yourself; the last batch already made job postings look dangerous.
