Shape-shifting terror is finally taking form in the DCU: DC Studios and Warner Bros. are fast-tracking Clayface for a 2026 debut, with James Watkins at the helm and Tom Rhys Harries oozing into Batman’s most grotesque foe—a bold body-horror swing for the franchise.

Clayface is almost done smashing through production. DC Studios and Warner Bros. are taking a big, gooey body-horror swing at a classic Batman villain, and cameras are about to stop rolling.

Where things stand

Tom Rhys Harries, who is playing Clayface, posted on his Instagram story that it is the last week of filming. Production kicked off in late August 2025, so this tracks with a tidy schedule. Translation: expect the movie to officially wrap in the coming days.

What this version is doing

This Clayface is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU and leans hard into horror. The take reportedly follows a washed-up B-movie actor in Hollywood who injects himself with a sketchy substance to stay relevant, and it spirals into full-on nightmare fuel. That dovetails with the character's comics roots: Clayface was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane and is best known as a shape-shifting menace who usually makes life miserable for Batman.

So... is Batman in this?

No official word. DC has not announced an actor for the DCU's Batman yet, and there has been zero formal confirmation he appears here. That said, some set photos floating around show a beat-up building labeled 'Wayne Community Center' — the kind of nerdy production detail that suggests Gotham's most famous family is at least in the atmosphere, even if the Caped Crusader himself never walks into frame.

Who is making it and when you can see it

  • Director: James Watkins (Eden Lake in 2008, The Woman in Black in 2012, Bastille Day in 2016, Speak No Evil in 2024) and he also handled second-unit duties on The Descent Part 2 in 2009.
  • Writers: Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
  • Star: Tom Rhys Harries as Clayface.
  • Release: September 11, 2026, exclusively in US theaters via Warner Bros. Pictures.

If post-production moves as efficiently as the shoot, DC might actually have this one ready to ooze into theaters right on time.
