The Boys season 5 is locking arms with Gen V season 2, and Eric Kripke just made it clear why.

Heads up: the Boys-verse is about to get real interconnected. Gen V season 2 is not just a fun campus detour anymore; it is the bridge between The Boys season 4 and the final showdown coming in season 5.

Kripke says Gen V is doing the heavy lifting

Showrunner Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that Gen V is very much tied to the mothership right now, even if it still stands on its own. His words, not mine:

"Gen V season 2 will carry the torch between The Boys season 4 and 5. There is a lot in Gen V that really helps set up the climax of this final confrontation in The Boys."

Translation: if you want the full picture heading into the endgame, you are going to want to watch Gen V season 2. This is the baton pass.

Where The Boys left things (aka: Homelander's America)

Season 4 ends with Homelander grabbing total power and slamming the country into martial law. Supes are effectively running the place. The only major players still at large: Starlight and Butcher. Hughie and the rest of the Boys got scooped up by rogue Supes. Lighthearted stuff.

What Gen V season 2 adds

Gen V picks up a few months after those events, so we will actually see what day-to-day looks like under Homelander's iron fist. It is also bringing in some very familiar faces: Erin Moriarty's Starlight and Nathan Mitchell's Black Noir are crossing over to the spin-off this season. That is not a cameo for funsies; that is connective tissue.

Amazon's official synopsis spells out the mood on campus:

"As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever."

So, yes, still college chaos, but now with open authoritarianism outside the gates and a new Dean cooking up extra-strong Supes. Subtle, it is not.

Season 5 status: filmed, wrapping the main story, coming in 2026

The Boys season 5 has wrapped filming, and Kripke said goodbye to the set in a very sentimental post on Twitter. He also makes it clear this is the grand finale for the main arc.

"This is the last time I'll ever be on this set. It'll be torn down soon. It's bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude. To #TheBoys family: I love you. To the fans: can't wait for you to see the grand finale. That's a wrap."

Season 5 is expected in 2026 and is positioned to bring the central storyline to a close.

  • Gen V season 2 premieres September 17
  • Timeline: set a few months after The Boys season 4
  • Crossover cast: Erin Moriarty (Starlight) and Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir)
  • Gen V is standalone, but explicitly sets up The Boys season 5's final confrontation
  • The Boys season 5 has finished filming and is expected in 2026
  • Season 5 is designed to wrap up the main storyline

Bottom line: Gen V is not homework, but it is absolutely the study guide for the finale. If you want to know what Homelander's new world order looks like before The Boys takes its final swing, this is where you find out.
