Few people paid attention to it right away.

Summary

  • Meemaw's movement was limited in the last episode.
  • Still, she managed to get around in the end.
  • The writers can be given the benefit of the doubt, and the inconsistency can be justified.

With the release of the eighth episode of Season 7 last Thursday, Young Sheldon is even closer to its conclusion. The fan-favorite CBS sitcom, which follows the beloved Coopers, has been the number one family comedy since it debuted in 2017. Naturally, YS fans are heartbroken to say goodbye to the show and excited for each new episode. Maybe that's why viewers don't notice major inconsistencies this season.

The episode 'An Ankle Monitor and a Big Plastic Crap House,' which premiered on April 18, showed the results of Meemaw's previous arrest, as she was placed under house arrest after a weekend in jail and given an ankle monitor to track her movements. Connie was instructed not to go more than fifty yards from her residence – Dale's house – or the police would get a signal and come to arrest her.

However, it appears that she did. But more importantly, neither the police nor we noticed.

A Stash of Money

Throughout the episode, Meemaw was going crazy because she couldn't leave Dale's house and he kept trying to entertain her with board games, which ironically only bored her to death. Wanting to regain her freedom, Connie decided to hire a good lawyer and interviewed a few. Unsatisfied with their level of competence, she grew desperate and decided to resort to something more effective.

As it turned out, Meemaw had been hiding money in the Cooper house all along – a huge hole in the living room wall behind a picture filled with stacks of dollar bills. Not too thrilled about the prospect of going to jail, she 'withdrew' some of the money to cover the legal fees of a more experienced and competent attorney.

And while it was funny, especially given Mary's reaction to finding her house stuffed with dirty gambling money, it should have raised many questions about how Connie managed to get there in the first place. After all, Meemaw was still wearing the ankle monitor, but it didn't prevent her from coming to the Cooper house.

Too Fun to Fret

Sure, it was strange that Connie had spent a whole day going crazy in Dale's house instead of going to her family's for a change if she could. But in fact, it was hardly possible for her. While we don't know the distance between the Coopers' and Dale's houses, it's probably more than the mere fifty yards Connie was allowed to walk.

So why didn't the monitor ring and the police come to arrest Meemaw? Because it was a massive inconsistency that we didn't notice because it was too funny and wholesome – the mother-daughter moment Connie and Mary had deserves its own article. But as fun as it is to think about the plot hole now, hopefully episode 9 won't have any of those when it premieres on April 25.
