Ghosts in mirrors, murder investigations, and the search for a sister in a mysterious forest.

Nowadays, horror genres rarely appear on the screen in their pure form – they are often mixed with other genres.

We invite you to get acquainted with a list of films whose directors took the risk to create a unique combination of horror and detective.

1. Mirrors, 2008

Former police officer Ben is a lonely man who drowns his pain in alcohol. After a scandalous dismissal and a break with his family, he gets a job as a security guard at a burned-out department store.

In an eerie place, he notices that the reflections in the mirrors have a life of their own. The ghosts show Ben the torment of the victims of the fire and then begin to threaten him, demanding to meet an old nun.

Director Alexandre Aja was predicted to become a master of horror films, but even after 15 years, Mirrors remains his best creation.

2. Backtrack, 2015

A year ago, Peter lost his daughter. Trying to cope with the tragedy, he throws himself into his work as a psychoanalyst, but it is difficult to help people in such a state.

Then he turns to a colleague who believes that Peter must remember all the details of the day of the tragedy, and at the same time gives the man strange patients: one is sure that he lives in 1987, another claims that her daughter does not notice her presence.

3. The Autopsy of Jane Doe, 2016

Three bodies are found in the basement of the house, but there is no trace of the killer. Pathologist Tommy is given a woman's body to determine the cause of death by morning. His son Austin stays with him.

During the examination, unusual details are discovered: the eyes indicate a long-ago death, but the body shows no signs of frostbite or violence, the woman also has no tongue and her limbs are badly crushed. In addition to the bad weather and technical problems, the doctors are plagued by strange visions.

4. The Forest, 2016

Japanese police inform Sara that her twin sister, Jess, has disappeared in the Aokigahara Forest, a popular suicide spot.

Sarah does not believe in the death of her sister and comes to Japan. She organizes a group with journalist Aiden, who discourages her from searching for her sister alone. During their search, they encounter ghosts.
