Netflix’s The Abandons drops all seven episodes with a scorched-earth finale, as the Fiona Nolan–Constance Van Ness feud erupts in an inferno where only one walks out—find out who survives the fire.

Netflix dropped The Abandons this week with all seven episodes, and the finale ends with a mean little tease: one of our two rivals walks out of a burning mansion, but the show refuses to tell us who. It is both clever and slightly infuriating. Let me walk you through it.

The setup: Headey vs. Anderson

The season builds around the feud between Lena Headey's Fiona Nolan and Gillian Anderson's Constance Van Ness. Quick note before we go any further: if you saw 'Fiona Dolan' floating around, that looks like a typo. The character is Fiona Nolan. Anyway, their standoff comes to a head in episode 7, titled 'This Was Meant to be My Peace.'

The fire, beat by beat

  • Fiona Nolan and a group of Jasper Hollow residents torch the Van Ness mansion. Constance is inside.
  • Fiona is not content to watch the place burn with her rival trapped, so she goes in after her.
  • They brawl in Constance's bedroom until the smoke and heat take over. Both start choking; Constance is clearly struggling to breathe, and by the last moments, Fiona seems to have the upper hand.
  • Cut to a first-floor window smashing out. A single figure emerges with the blaze roaring behind them.
  • Because of the smoke and backlight, you cannot tell who it is. Long hair, what looks like a dress... which does not help, since it could be either Fiona or Constance.

So... who survived?

The show does not say. On purpose. The identity of the survivor is deliberately obscured in that final shot. And here is the part that surprised me: even the folks behind the scenes are keeping it open.

Showrunner Chris Keyser has said they did not yet know which character survived.

That creative choice gives them multiple paths if Netflix orders a second season. Depending on who stepped through that window, you can spin the story in very different directions.

Where it leaves us

Episode 7 never reveals the survivor, and the season ends right there. If you want answers, you are waiting for a (hopefully greenlit) season 2. Until then, all seven episodes of The Abandons are now streaming on Netflix.
