Add a dash of spice and your everyday dish bursts with bright, bold flavor.

Add a pinch of spice and the most familiar breakfast perks right up. This is my egg toasts move: crisp outside, soft and custardy inside, on the table in minutes. Beginner friendly, family friendly, and perfect with coffee or tea.

What you need

  • White bread or a soft loaf, 4 slices
  • Eggs, 2
  • Milk, 50 ml
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Butter, 20 g

How I make it

Beat the eggs with the milk and a pinch of salt in a shallow bowl until smooth. Dip each slice so both sides sip up the mixture; about 5 to 10 seconds per side keeps the bread nicely soaked yet intact.

Set a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Lay in the soaked slices and cook to a deep golden crust on each side, roughly 2 to 3 minutes per side. That steady medium heat gives you color and a fully set, tender middle.

Serve immediately while the edges are hot and crisp.

Serve it your way

Sweet: honey, jam, or your favorite preserves. Savory: a slice of cheese, a little ham, or fresh vegetables on top works beautifully.

Small upgrades that help

For a lighter finish, land the toasts on a paper towel right after the pan to pull off excess oil. For a little extra character, whisk a pinch of ground paprika or dried garlic into the egg mixture before dipping.

My quick take

I made a batch for breakfast and it checked every box: fast, simple, very satisfying. The crust turned golden and crisp, and the center stayed soft, tender, and nicely soaked with the egg mixture.
