The writers' decision to have the two undo all they’ve achieved disappointed many viewers.

After a successful four-year run, the beloved series Ted Lasso recently drew to a close, releasing the final episode of its third season just days ago.

Throughout its tenure, the series consistently delighted viewers with its uplifting narrative and clever humour, cultivating a deep affection for its nuanced characters and their captivating storylines.

Audiences particularly cherished the evolving relationship between Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt. Over the course of the three seasons, these two characters blossomed into fan favourites thanks to their authentic friendship and remarkable personal growth. Their poignant journey makes the absence of a happily-ever-after ending for them even more bittersweet.

From the outset of Ted Lasso, Roy and Jamie were at loggerheads. Yet, in the subsequent seasons, they managed to bury the hatchet, developing a bond that transformed their relationship from rivals to friends. The depth of their connection, beautifully portrayed in season 3, served as the series' backbone. Kent and Tartt supported each other through their darkest days, their dynamic arguably the show's lifeblood.

Given their trajectory, viewers had every reason to expect a harmonious resolution for Roy and Jamie, both as a pair and as individuals. However, the writers had other plans, introducing a drastic shift in their relationship in the series' final episode.

The aptly named So Long, Farewell features a distressing fallout between Tartt and Kent over their mutual love interest, Keeley Jones. Driven by their determination to win her over, they obliterate the bond they've carefully built over three seasons, regressing to the impetuous boys they once were. This descent into immaturity is accentuated by their complete disregard for Keeley's agency, her feelings and desires.

Fortunately, Keeley refuses to tolerate their behaviour, boldly severing ties with both men. Her character's development throughout the series remains intact, offering a glimmer of satisfaction amid the sea of disappointment. However, it's deeply disconcerting to witness Jamie and Roy relapse into their former dysfunctional selves. Their friendship was a beacon of hope in Ted Lasso, making its destruction all the more tragic.

Despite this setback, Ted Lasso remains an iconic series, available for streaming in its entirety on Apple TV+. Perhaps this tumultuous ending lays the groundwork for a potential spinoff. Only time will tell.
