Ted Lasso Season 3 Director Finally Reveals Who Keeley Should End Up With
His answer is surprisingly satisfying.
After three seasons, Ted Lasso came to a close this May, much to the chagrin of millions of viewers. No wonder fans of the show are still discussing the story, AFC Richmond, its staff, and their troubled personal lives.
While the show ended on a satisfying note for pretty much all the characters, Keeley Jones seemed the only one left out because her romantic arc was never completed. However, she has had arguably the best character development throughout the series, going through an it-girl to a self-respecting businesswoman. Of course, people rooted for Keeley and hoped she would find love at the end of her journey on Ted Lasso.
Director Declan Lowney, who helmed a total of eight out of Ted Lasso's 34 episodes (including the finale 'So Long, Farewell'), shared his thoughts on Keeley's unresolved romantic storyline, and who she should end up with eventually. As you know, the character was romantically linked to both Roy and Jamie, and some fans were hoping that she would choose one man over the other. But the director disagrees.
In an interview with Awards Daily, Lowney was asked which of Keeley's love interests would be a good match for her. And his answer makes perfect sense.
'I'm not sure she should end up with either of them, particularly because they've decided that she can pick between them. In other words, they weren't giving her the choice to pick someone else,' Lowney said. 'I hope they all stay pretty good friends, but maybe Keeley will meet somebody else. One of them is going to be disappointed if she ends up with the other.'
Indeed, if we imagine that Keeley's story is continued as a spin-off, ending up with either Roy or Jamie would be a major roll-back for the character. Jones has evidently outgrown both of the men by Ted Lasso's finale, and fans would expect her to move forward, leaving the love triangle behind.
Whether Keleey finds another man, a woman, or stays alone and focuses on her career instead, we would love to see her story explored further in a sequel series of some sorts. Sadly, the Ted Lasso creators are not ready to give fans any hope for a possible spin-off.
