Ted Lasso's Dr. Jacob is Grade-A Jerk, And This Ted's Line Proves It

Throughout its three-season run, Ted Lasso proved to be that 'will restore your faith in humanity' show that everyone should watch and admire.

But there was one storyline that bothered many viewers — the relationship between Dr. Jacob Bryanson and Ted Lasso's ex-wife Michelle.

In the show's final seasons, it was revealed that Michelle was dating Dr. Jacob, who had been her and Ted's couple therapist in the past. The news was disturbing and uncomfortable both for the protagonist and viewers, and fans felt even more alarmed after they noticed one of Ted's lines in reference to Dr. Jacob.

'Fourth rewatch and just noticed Ted says, "We saw a therapist she'd been seeing for a while." Incredibly unprofessional of this clear d**k,' a fan wrote on Reddit, unleashing a full-blown fury on the doctor.

As if it wasn't enough that the same person the couple once hoped would help them save their marriage was suddenly dating Michelle and playing a daddy figure to her son, Dr. Jacob also turned out to be her personal therapist for God knows how long. This revelation horrified fans and shed new light on Ted and Michelle's relationship.

Looking at the couple's journey to divorce, it's not hard to see that Dr. Jacob could use his professional position to convince Mishell to blame all her problems on her marriage to Ted, then suggest that he could counsel them as the couple's therapist, and then railroad his patient's husband into taking the blame for the marriage going wrong and giving his wife space.

Once Ted was gone to England, Dr. Jacob was able to finally get into Michelle's life for real, while still being her therapist and convincing her that she'll be better off on her own. The only question here seems to be, is Jacob cunning enough to have done all this?

Luckily, even if he is, the Season 3 finale made sure to emphasize that Michelle didn't get engaged to him and seemed to be drifting away from him and closer to Ted, clearly giving the protagonist a second chance with his family.
