Sydney Sweeney Shuts Down Cosmetic Surgery Rumors, Calls Out Critics
Sydney Sweeney is done with the internet picking apart her face. In a new interview with The Housemaid costar Amanda Seyfried, the star fires back at cosmetic surgery rumors and calls out the obsession with her appearance.
Sydney Sweeney has heard the plastic surgery chatter, and she finally swatted it down — directly, and with Amanda Seyfried sitting right next to her. The pair were doing a joint Allure interview when Sweeney decided to address the long-running speculation about her face, the old photos people keep dragging out, and why needles are not her thing.
What Sweeney actually said
'Let’s debunk them all. I mean, I have never gotten work done. I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.'
The setup was simple: Allure asked her to pick a 'beauty rumor' she wanted to kill. Sweeney — yes, the Euphoria actress and Anyone But You star — went straight for the plastic surgery talk. She also called out the before-and-after pics that circulate every few weeks, the ones comparing a red-carpet photo to a middle school yearbook. As she put it, you cannot compare a photo of her at 12 to a photo of her at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. And then, with the kind of exhausted honesty you only use when you are over it, she added: 'Everybody on social media’s insane.'
The Seyfried angle (and a little gallows humor)
Seyfried, who is older than Sweeney, made the very reasonable point that some procedures can be useful as you get older — she also said Sweeney does not need any of it. Sweeney joked, 'I’ll call you.' Seyfried volleyed back with, basically, a pre-op pep talk: 'You gotta call me, and I’ll give you a little bit of Ativan, and you’ll be so excited.' Dark joke, delivered with love.
About that 'even' comment — here’s what she meant
Sweeney clarified that if she ever did anything, it would be to make her face more 'even.' That was not some coy confession. She explained she had a childhood accident that led to a non-cosmetic surgery, and ever since, one eye opens a little wider than the other. Seyfried told her it is not noticeable. Translation: this is minor asymmetry, not evidence of a secret nip-tuck.
What this is really about
People grow up, faces change, makeup and lighting are sorcery, and the internet loves a conspiracy. Sweeney did not dance around any of that — she shut the rumor down, explained the eye thing, and moved on.
Meanwhile, their actual project
Sweeney and Seyfried are co-starring in The Housemaid, which is scheduled to premiere in the United States on December 19, 2025. Yes, that is a long runway, but consider this your early heads-up.
